As a result of an alcohol-related criminal offense
(usually a DUI), an individual may be required,
by the court judge, to attend a Victim Impact Panel
(VIP) presentation. These sessions involve actual
victims of impaired drivers telling how the illegal
conduct has impacted their lives. Whether it is
the recounting of the experience of losing a parent,
explaining the emotional stress involved in handling
the medical aftermath, or relating the experiences
in dealing daily with having lost a child in this
senseless way, the stories are compelling, emotional
and have a real impact.
