ANNUAL LEAVE (SECTION 6.00)
Annual leave is accumulative; the longer you're employed
with Cass County , the more leave you earn.

Part-time and hourly employees earn annual leave on a prorated
basis. A maximum accrual of 240 hours may be carried over
to the next year.
Social Service employees see Personnel Policy Manual for
hours accumulated.
SICK LEAVE (SECTION 6.00)
Sick leave will accrue at the rate of 8 hours per month
for full-time employees. Part-time employees accrue sick
leave on a prorated basis based on the hours worked. Sick
leave may be used for the employee's own illness and for
medical and dental appointments. There is no compensation
for unused sick leave.
Family sick leave may be used to tend to the needs of certain
family members who are ill or to assist them in obtaining
medical services or other services related to their health
or well-being. Family sick leave may not exceed forty( 40)
hours per calendar year.
FUNERAL LEAVE (SECTION 6.00)
Funeral leave will be granted to full-time employees. Part-time
employees will be granted funeral leave on a prorated basis.
Up to 4 consecutive days may be granted, at the discretion
of the department head, with pay as funeral leave in the
case of death of the employee's spouse, children, parents,
brothers, sisters, grandchildren or grandparents.
Up to 2 consecutive days may be granted in the case of death
of extended family members, listed in the Personnel Policy
Manual.
Social Service employees see Personnel Policy Manual for
funeral leave granted.
HOLIDAYS (SECTION 6.00)
The official holidays for Cass County are ten (10) per year:
New Year's Memorial Day Veterans Day
Martin Luther King Day Independence Day Thanksgiving Day
President's Day Labor Day Christmas Day
Good Friday
If any of the above fall on a Saturday, the Friday immediately
before shall be a holiday. If one falls on a Sunday, the
following Monday shall be a holiday.
Part-time employees who work at least twenty (20) hours
per week shall receive holiday pay on a prorated basis.
GROUP HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE (SECTION 6.10)
Cass County is self-insured with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of North Dakota administering the health and dental programs. Coverage begins the first of the month following 160 hours (1 month) of employment. The employee pays a portion of the premiums. Part-time and hourly employees are eligible to participate with the employee's premium calculated on a prorated basis.
Group dental benefits are available to county employees with the rate set annually by the county commission. Family plans are also available to employees at their own expense.
Employees who terminate employment may continue health insurance and dental coverage through COBRA for a period of 18 months at the full premium plus 2%.
LIFE INSURANCE (SECTION 6.10)
Cass County pays for a $1,300 life insurance policy for
each employee working 17½ hours or more per week.
If desired, additional life insurance may be purchased by
the employee at a very reasonable rate.
RETIREMENT (SECTION 6.20)
All new non-elected employees employed twenty (20) hours
or more per week, for more than five (5) months per year,
are required to participate in the North Dakota Public Employees
Retirement System (NDPERS). Elected officials may apply for
membership if they wish.
Cass County pays the entire 9.12% of each employee's gross
monthly salary on each employee's behalf. NDPERS provides
for vested retirement benefits after three (3) years of service.
If an employee terminates County employment prior to being
vested, he/she is eligible to receive at least 4% of the
contribution, including any accrued interest paid by NDPERS.
WORKER'S COMPENSATION (SECTION
6.10)
All employees are protected by Worker's Compensation against
loss of income due to accidental injury and/or occupationally
insured illness. If you should become injured at work, notify
your supervisor and contact the Personnel Office immediately,
if possible, to complete an Accident Form and a Workers Comp.
Form.
FLEXIBLE BENEFITS
Under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, county employees
are entitled to pay for selected benefits with pre-tax salary
dollars. Under the Flexible Benefits Program, the following
benefits can be pre-taxed:
*Employee contribution toward medical and life insurance
premiums.
*Medical, dental and health-related supplies and services
not covered by insurance.
*Daycare for dependent child, disabled spouse or dependent
parent.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION (SECTION
6.21)
Deferred Compensation allows county employees to set aside
part of before-tax earnings and accumulate a nest egg for
retirement years. It is voluntary and handled as a payroll
deduction from gross salary.
AMERICAN EXPRESS CORPORATE CARD
American Express is available to full-time employees earning
at least $15,000 per year. The card is to be used primarily
for business-related travel and entertainment expenses, however,
personal use is permitted.
CITY & COUNTY
EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION
Direct Deposit and/or a deduction from your paycheck to
deposit into your savings account can be done at our credit
union. If you have a loan payment to make at the credit union
that deduction can also be sent directly to them through
payroll deduction.
DIRECT DEPOSIT OF YOUR ENTIRE PAYCHECK MAY ALSO BE MADE
TO ANY OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTION IF YOU SO CHOOSE. |
